Mount Rainier Institute: Greater Puget Sound Schools

Research Sponsored By: Garneau-Nicon Family Foundation
Principal Investigator: Gregory Ettl
Project Description
Mount Rainier Institute (MRI) cultivates the next generation of environmental scientists and leaders by providing outstanding science and nature-based education experiences. The MRI program is an overnight, multiple day experience for 4th – 12th grade students, specifically targeting diverse and underserved audiences in the greater Puget Sound and Mount Rainier region. This unique program is a partnership between the University of Washington, Mount Rainier National Park and Washington schools. Utilizing the collective resources of the University of Washington's Pack Forest and Mount Rainier National Park, our programs ignite an appreciation for science and nature, build confidence in being outdoors, connect students to the wonders of our National Parks, and illuminate potential career paths in science and the environmental field.
