Project Description
The following is the scope of work: 1a. Using biomass growth/yield models, data on recovery options, biomass quality, and allocation between co-products, generate a LCI that represents the current allocation between energy, pulp, and durable wood products from harvest of PNW Douglas-fir commercial forest types. Develop one or more commercially viable alternative allocation schemes. 1b. Using biomass growth and yield data and data on recovery options provided by the University of Maine, including allocation between co-products, generate a LCI that represents the current allocation between energy, pulp, and durable wood products from harvest of NENC spruce-fir commercial forest types. Develop one or more commercially viable alternative allocation schemes. 2a. Develop a LCI for plantation grown hybrid poplar, willow, and eucalyptus when used as a SRWC feedstock for production biofuels. 3a. Develop a LCA of the impacts of using woody biomass as a feedstock for biochemical conversion of biomass to ethanol based on feedstock inputs from hybrid poplar. 4a. Evaluate interaction between the alternative SRWC feedstock production and the biofuel conversion scenarios. This includes sensitivity and uncertainty analysis associated with the life cycle inventory of producing fuels from SWRC biomass.
