KCP-SEFS Forest Management Partnership

Research Sponsored By: King County Department of Natural Resources and Parks
Principal Investigator: Gregory Ettl
Project Description
The School of Environmental and Forest Sciences (SEFS) at the University of Washington will assist King County with planning, management, and monitoring of their county-owned forestland. Through this partnership, undergraduate and graduate SEFS students will engage in on-the-ground forest management projects and gain practical experience in operational, social, and ecological aspects of forestry. Projects will include writing forest stewardship plans, assessing forests management needs, conducting public outreach, researching and developing customized management strategies, designing and implementing forest stewardship projects, and monitoring of past treatments. Students will engage in these projects through a class oriented around this partnership, capstone and independent study projects, and internships. King County and SEFS will periodically identify new projects and a scope of work for each project.
